Annette Snow, left, and Margaret Vaughan.

Hello everyone. Hope you are doing well and staying warm.

Last year is gone and we’re into the New Year. We’ve had some good memories and some sad moments. However, we must look ahead. Expect 2024 to be a good year.

Birthdays: Happy birthday to Alicia Burch, Amy Stinson, Lisa Phillips, Justin Gray, Janet Weldon Jones, Joey Cobb, Billy Davenport, Sarah Peoples Julia Allred, Ivijay Causey, Hannah Tims, Lillian Coleman, Bobby Walker, Donnie Todd, Frances Bunn, Dexter Headrick, Judy Burch, Erskine Funderburg, Pete Rich, Gaston Williamson and my grandson, Marty Snow whose birthday is the 15th.

Annette, Tommy and myself drove over to Helena Hollow on Saturday to celebrate my great-great granddaughter, Hadley Byrd’s, first birthday. She actually turned one on Dec. 20, but we all had a wonderful time celebrating her. Hadley’s parents are Kayla and Beaux Byrd. She is beautiful and delightful.

Deaths: Please keep the families of Gary “Skeet” Pender, Jack Hayes, Dossie Stevens, Roger Mathis, Sandra Burrell, Simon Mills, Patsy Stevens, Lillian Savage, Johnnie Stevens and Dewey Webb in your thoughts and prayers.

CEPA: Feb. 16 at 7 p.m., The WingNuts return to CEPA to present an all-new show – The Classic Rock Cassette Era. Tickets are $25.

Local: Attend the Third Thursday in Historic Downtown Pell City for specials, sales and fun beginning at 11 a.m. on Jan. 18.

Then attend the Power Lunch “Excellence in Leadership” in the Fellowship Hall at Eden Westside Baptist Church on Wednesday, Jan 24 from 12-1 p.m. RSVP to jcimpactministries@gmail.com. Sponsored by the Pell City Chamber of Commerce.

Congratulations to Jake Blackstone, PCHS Panther senior, who finished 7th in the state for 6A football kickers.

Congratulations to the PCHS Band of Gold that was named as one of the top 5 finalists (in large schools) in the national Metallic Band Competition. Our band is awesome. and congratulations to Auburn University’s band who won top prize overall.

Spring city baseball, softball and soccer registration has started. Baseball and softball registration ends Feb. 4 and soccer ends Feb. 11. Register in person at the Civic Center or online at pellcity.recdesk.com. There will be a 14U league this spring for baseball.

Tryouts for PCHS Auxiliary 2024 for the Band of Gold are coming up. Current 7th–11th graders are welcome. There will be a mandatory parent meeting for anyone interested in trying out on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. in the CEPA. Majorette and dance line tryouts will be Jan. 29–Feb 2. Color guard tryouts will be Feb. 5-9.

Miscellaneous: Feeling a little burnt out from the holiday excitement. Light a peppermint candle to help feel better. The smell of mint has been shown to lower anxiety and fatigue and even suppress the appetite. and it makes your house smell so good.

Remember: Nothing’s too big or too small to bring before Him in prayer — He hears you whether it feels like it or not. (Joyce Meyer)

A moment of patience in a moment of anger will prevent a thousand moments of regret.
