Anna Claire Hathorn and Anna Crosson, two young filmmakers from the Center for Education and Performing Arts, have been accepted into the prestigious All-American High School Film Festival in New York City. This marks Hathorn’s second consecutive acceptance into the festival, and this year, her short film “Neighborly,” produced by CEPA’s Spotlight Studio, will be featured.

This year’s acceptance holds special significance for both Hathorn and Crosson, as it will be their final opportunity to participate in the festival before aging out and transitioning to college. “Neighborly,” an exploration of community and connection, is set to be screened at one of the most renowned film festivals dedicated to high school filmmakers. CEPA is reaching out to the community for contributions to help cover travel and accommodation costs for their trip to New York City, ensuring that they can fully experience this incredible opportunity.

“We are immensely proud of Anna Claire and Anna for their hard work and dedication. Their success at the All-American High School Film Festival is a testament to their talent and the supportive environment at CEPA,” CEPA Executive Director Ash Arrington said. “As this is their last chance to participate in the festival, we encourage everyone to support their journey and help them make the most of this exceptional experience.”

The All-American High School Film Festival, held annually in Times Square, is recognized as the premier platform for emerging student filmmakers, offering them a chance to showcase their work to an international audience. The festival provides exposure and opportunities for young artists to advance their careers in the film industry. CEPA’s Spotlight Studio program, under the interim directions of Hathorn, continues to foster creativity and artistic expression among local students. The program, which launched in 2020, offers opportunities in filmmaking and podcasting, helping young talents like Hathorn and Crosson develop their skills and gain recognition.

In addition to their exciting news from the All-American High School Film Festival, CEPA’s Spotlight Studio has further reason to celebrate as their recent project, “Neighborly,” has been selected for the Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham. The film, which screened on Aug. 25, featured the collaborative efforts of eight students from across St. Clair County, many of whom were participating in a film production for the first time. This achievement highlights the growing impact of CEPA’s programs in nurturing young talent and providing valuable opportunities for emerging filmmakers in the region. The Sidewalk Film Festival, known for its support of innovative and diverse storytelling, provided a fantastic platform for these young filmmakers to showcase their work and gain further recognition.

CEPA and Spotlight Studio are supported by the City of Pell City, Pell City Schools, and the EBSCO Community Impact Program.
