On Thursday, Sept. 28, Springville received a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile as one of the company’s 25 new Hometown Grant recipients.
The cash infusion will help Springville renovate the Main Street Farmers Market Pavilion, by helping to provide a new pergola, concrete pad, concrete stage, exterior lighting, planter boxes and AstroTurf area for community events and gatherings. Springville officials and T-Mobile celebrated the grant and project with a check presentation, facility tour, door prizes and refreshments on Monday, Oct. 9.
“The City of Springville, Alabama is so excited to announce that the Springville Parks & Recreation department is a recipient of a grant from the T-Mobile Hometown Grants program,” said Springville Area Chamber of Commerce President Nikki Posey. “Receiving this grant is going to help us completely revitalize a common area in our downtown district and bring an official farmer’s market to our community! Not only will it help us beautify the area for our citizens, but we will be a part of the Alabama certified Farmers Market program focused on supporting our local and surrounding farmers, providing them a beautiful spot to sell their goods. Having the area to host and be a part of the certified Farmers Market program also allows us to participate in the FMNP/ Senior FMNP (Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program) which will provide an incredible resource to our nutritionally at-risk citizens. Receiving this grant is creating a ripple effect that is going to benefit so many different aspects of our community! We are extremely grateful to T-Mobile and their commitment to investing in small communities like ours.”
Springville mayor Dave Thomas said,
“Springville is appreciative of T-Mobile’s partnership through its Hometown Grant program, as we enhance our community Farmers Market. We all appreciate improving our quality of life and, with T-Mobile’s help, we’re doing just that. Thank you, T-Mobile.”
Springville Parks and Recreation Board Chairman Beth Wingate said,
“The City of Springville will benefit greatly from the T-Mobile Hometown Grant for our Farmer’s Market Venue. The farmers market will be at the heart of our City on Main Street to be enjoyed by residents for many years to come. T-Mobile’s generous grant has made this possible.”
Since the program’s start, T-Mobile has provided more than $245,000 to kickstart community development projects across Alabama, including Atmore, Wedowee, City of Selma, Fairfield, City of Northport and Leeds. T-Mobile awards Hometown Grants each quarter for up to 25 towns with a population of less than 50,000 people.
