Cross selected for All Girls State

Kelcie D. Cross has been chosen to represent Ashville High School at the 2012 session of the American Legion Auxillary Alabama Girls State, held on the campus of Troy University.

For one week Cross will become a citizen in an imaginary state, taking part in the political life of her community, campaigning for and electing city, county and state officials.  Cross will learn the operation of government by participating in party caucuses and the election process.  Well-known speakers and other state, county and city officials are expected to visit and enlighten young women about their civic responsibilities.

Cross plans to campaign for the office of Chaplain.

The daughter of John W. and Cheryl M. Cross and the granddaughter of Ed and June Massey of Ashville and Duncan (deceased) Jeanette Cross of Springville, Cross was selected to attended Alabama Girls State because of her outstanding leadership.  Cross’s honors and activities include: First Priority Leader, Varsity Basketball, Organizer FCA 2012, Volleyball Manager and yearbook staff.
