All About Ashville

Another week starts out with accolades to Ashville’s athletes.
Ashville High School football players Clay Keller, Luke Harris, Adrienne Hernandez, Dylan Harris and Trevor Horsley were named First All County Squad for the 2020 season. Kain Head, Ashton Mostello, Cole Hyatt and Travis Smith received Honorable Mentions.
Did you gentlemen leave any awards for the other players?
The Ashville High School basketball team also brought home a victory. They traveled to Ohatchee and defeated their opponents 67-11. Definitely worth the trip.
Late in coming but we’ll deserved is Mrs. Reyman’s honor as September’s teacher of the month. She won by a vote of Ashville’s middle school students.
Ashville has begun recognizing a member of faculty and staff to honor every month beginning with math teacher, Wendy Bishoff whose accomplishments are almost too numerous to mention. Bishoff is the head of career training for the entire school as well as organizer for the Diamond Dolls. She is also furthering her education by pursuing a higher degree and helps with the color guard when she gets the time.
The question is, where does she get the time?
This Saturday is one of Ashville’s favorite and most fun traditions, The Christmas Parade. Bring the little ones early. Beginning at 10 a.m., there will be Starshine Faces, pictures with Santa and more. The parade begins at 1 p.m. Sources say this will be the best one yet.
Following is the The Art Council’s A Warehouse Christmas. Drink hot chocolate and enjoy a live Nativity scene and craft corner. Kids get pictures with a singing Santa. Go to blountcountyarts.com for tickets and more details.
Same day at 5 p.m. The Blount County Fraternal Order of Police presents A Golden Christmas. This is a concert featuring Wilburn and Wilburn and The Lefavre Quartet. Call 205-237-7795 to purchase tickets.
On Friday and Saturday, Atroxmas presents The Dark Side of Christmas, a holiday haunt guaranteed to scare the Christmas daylights out of you.
Sunday at 2 p.m. is P.J.”s Birthday party at 49595 U.S. Highway 78 in Lincoln. P.J. decided to forego his own party and have a drive thru give away instead. What a special young man.
That is one busy weekend.
But there are still some who prefer to stay safe at home. Ashville Public Library has many Christmas themed new releases and old favorites. And the internet has numerous sites that teach how to make decorations and gifts from items in your home far more sophisticated than the construction paper and popcorn we old folks used.
But when, where, and how you choose to do it, a celebration is a celebration. There is no wrong way to have one of those. And no time when we need as many as possible.
Until next week, Ashville. Stay safe. Stay warm. And stay merry.
