The Springville Civil Air Patrol, AL-126 Cadet Squadron Color Guard had the honor to participate in the City of Springville Mayoral Inauguration of Mayor Dave Thomas on Nov. 2nd in the Springville City Hall Chamber.

The Color Guard members were C/2d Lt Aidan Kay, C/MSgt Sebastian Lumpkin, C/MSgt Bryan Shelton, C/SSgt Ashley Mills and C/SSgt Megan Hollingsworth. SMs present were SSgt Fred Flowers, SSgt La-Tunya Flowers, 2d Lt Serren Bouska-Hollingsworth and Major Ken McEntyre. As one of the new Mayor’s first actions, he swore in the new Police Chief, Wayne Walton.

Springville High School Principal, Gregory Moore, thanked the community in a special video message posted on social media for passing the amendment to allow a district option. The district option would allow those in each school district in the county to choose to impose an ad valorem increase for schools within the school zones. The vote narrowly passed with a reported count of 20,170 to 19,628.

The SHS Varsity Cheerleaders will compete Monday, Nov. 9th at the AHSAA Central Super Regional Cheerleading Tournament at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Congratulations to SHS Varsity Boys and Girls Cross Country teams for both qualifying for the 6A state Cross Country meet. The girls finished 3rd and were led by tournament champion Beth Ann Tucker and 3rd place finisher Gracie Mathews.

Homestead Hollow will host Christmas in the Country on Nov. 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 kids ages 3 to 12, free ages 2 and under, groups of 20 or more are $6 each. A great way to spend the day with the family, arts, crafts, demonstrators, live entertainment, kids activities, delicious food and Santa.

The Springville Chamber of Commerce will host a “Shop Springville Giveaway” on Nov. 13th through 15th with area shoppers earning a chance to win Visa Gift Cards.

The Springville Library now offers Small Group Preschool Storytime at the library on Tuesdays or Thursdays at noon. Attendance will be limited, so be sure to reserve your space now. Stories will be the same on both days. Children will receive bagged take-home crafts. Snacks will not be provided at this time. Masks are required for adults and children over six with social distancing. Call the annex at 205-467-7261 to register.

Springville Parks and Recreation

Springville Library

Beginning on Nov. 9, 2020, the Springville Public Library is extending library appointment hours to include afternoon and evening appointments Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hours will open our buildings for multiple patron appointments for patrons who wish to select materials and use library computers. Library programs that require building space will be held from noon-1:30 p.m., please check your calendar for availability during these hours. The Springville Senior Center will be closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic until further notice.

Springville Preservation Society

The Springville Preservation Society is taking reservations for use of the historic “Little House” located adjacent to the Police Department for events or meetings.
