Walmart in Pell City now offers a new service to customers. The addition of grocery pickup will allow customers to order online or through the Walmart Grocery App and pick up at the store.
“This is a great convenient tool for our customers,” said Walmart Assistant Manager Chris Falk. “The majority of our customers will come between 3 – 6 p.m. Parents come by after getting kids from school and pick up their groceries.”
A ribbon cutting for the new addition was held on Thursday, Sept. 13 with the Pell City Chamber of Commerce and Walmart already had 30 orders scheduled for that day. The first customer of the day, Mike Hanks, received a gift basket including two complete meals and a free crock pot. Associates were on hand to help him to his vehicle with his purchase.
Online orders of smaller general merchandise items that aren’t available in store will be placed in a dispensing tower where customers scan their phone or enter information to retrieve their items.
“It works similar to a large vending machine,” said Pell City Walmart Store Manager Shawn Talley. “Items will be stocked in the tower and dispense to customers when they come to pick them up.
Groceries orders can be placed online or through the Walmart Grocery app. Customers choose a time for pickup. Associates gather the items selected and customers conveniently pick them up at their scheduled time.
The Walmart Grocery app can be downloaded on your mobile device for free. There is also a discount code for $10 off of the first $50 order, “WOWFRESH.”
In addition to the opening of the grocery pickup, grant checks were also presented to local elementary school principals Jennifer Hannah of Coosa Valley Elementary, Elizabeth Grimes of Iola Roberts, an Laurie Funderburg of Eden Elementary School. Each received a grant for $1000 during 2018.
“Education and civic organizations like the fire and police departments are extremely important,” said Store Manager Shawn Talley. “We want the grant money to stay in our community.”
Grants are available for application beginning in February 2019 and are open to any non-profit, school, or civic organization.
Pell City Walmart was also doing a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network, and ongoing endeavor to raise $40,000 this year for the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
“The Children’s Hospital is the third largest freestanding children’s hospital in the U.S.,” said Talley. “So far, the Children’s Miracle Network has donated $16.9 million to the hospital for children and families. It is a great cause.”
