Search continues for missing kayaker on Logan Martin

An overturned kayak prompted a search by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies near Logan Martin Dam.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Officers were dispatched to reports of an over turned kayak on Logan Martin Lake on Friday.

Two witnesses saw a person fishing at the dam at approximately 8 a.m., but stated the kayak was overturned and the dam turbines turned on when they returned later during the day.
The subject was not found around the kayak and has not been seen. A search is currently underway.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Childersburg Rescue, Leeds and Pell City Dive Teams, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Marine Police, AL Game and Fish, and Tallapoosa County Rescue have all joined the search operation.
*UPDATE*
According to Assistant Sheriff Billy Murray, the search resumed at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The missing person has been identified as 69 year old James Lowery, Sr. from Mapleton, Georgia. Law enforcement continues to search Logan Martin Lake by boat this morning.
