Large Wildfire in Talladega County

For the second day, wildland firefighters with the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) continue to fight a large wildfire in the Alpine community of Talladega County. The fire is currently estimated at approximately 500 acres in size, but there are no citizens or homes in immediate danger. AFC personnel are employing bulldozers to contain the flames.

Because of current drought conditions and persistent high temperatures, the AFC issued a Fire Danger Advisory for all 67 counties on Monday. In the last seven days, 122 wildfires have burned over 1,000 acres of land in Alabama.
