On Nov. 2, 2018 the Moody Lions Club completed their annual vision screening at Moody Middle School.  On that date they screened 358 students in the 4th and 6th grades.  While gathering their equipment their Sight Chair Lion Jane Barker was asked to come to the library before leaving.  During this visit their discussion was about all the new things that had been accomplished and about the goals that had not yet been reached.  One of those goals was the purchase of a new set of United States Presidents Biographies.

In December at a Moody Lions Club Board meeting the MMS library’s need was shared.  A motion to present the need to the Moody Lions was made.  The members of the club unanimously approved a $500 donation to the library to purchase the books needed.  A check was mailed.

At the last Lions meeting the club secretary, Lion Michelle McGowen, read a thank you card and shared a photo of four Moody Middle School (MMS) students, Zeniah Brownlee, Payton Shore, Kynlie Harvard, and Abi Gray, pictured with the new set of biographies.

“The faculty and staff at Moody Middle School were honored to receive a donation from the Moody Lion’s Club for our library. We serve over 600 students at MMS and strive to provide relevant, up-to-date resources for student and teacher use. Since state funding for our library is limited, we’re constantly looking for ways to expand and improve our library collection,” shared Sadie Robinson, MMS Librarian Media Specialist. “We were in desperate need of up-to-date biographies of each of our United States presidents.  Many of our previous biographies were 15-20 years old and were far above the reading level of our average student.  Moody Lion’s Club was able to help us purchase a United States Presidents set of 44 books from Abdo. These books are high quality and library bound.  We feel like this particular set of books will best fit the needs of our students at MMS and will benefit students for many, many years to come!  Moody Middle School appreciates the continued support from the Moody Lion’s Club and all they do to improve our school and community.”

Lions mission statement points to their dedication to making the world a better place to live.  “To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.”

Lions make an effort to know the community needs so Lions can try to make life better.  Lions have a saying “Where there is a need-there is a Lion”.  The Moody Lions Club continues to work to fulfil their motto “WE SERVE”.
