- The "Jackson 6" help raise additional funds for the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department by soliciting donations from the crowd, bringing in an additional $3,720.16.
The Dancing with Our Stars fundraiser raised more than $21,700 for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department for Project Lifesaver.
Officers with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, Pell City Fire Department, and several local businesses and individuals competed in the Pell City Line Dancers sponsored event.
According to organizers, more than 600 people attended the event with some participating firemen having to leave to patrol the overcrowded parking lot.
Ticket sales accounted for just a part of the funds raised. A silent auction brought in more than $1,300, a “Jailhouse” game raised $835 and a group called “The Jackson Six Organization” solicited donations totaling $3,720.16.
There were 94 dancers ranging in ages fifteen to seventy-five.
Guns and Badges from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department took home first place for their elaborate performance in which puffs of smoke were employed to create the illusion of a film screen.
Coming in at second place was, “A Little Bit of Country and A lot of Funk.” As its name suggests, their routine was a combination of Line Dancing and Hip Hop.
Third place went to “The Dance Fevers,” of St. Vincent’s St. Clair who performed a remix number, remix being a form of modern dance.
First place for couples went to Maliha Alwzat and Jared Shiver who danced the Mambo. Second was awarded to Paul and Cyndi Cobb. The Cobbs chose a dance called “The Dizzy.” This is a line dance intended for one person. Dr. Galen Sims and Teresa Horne won third place with the classic Jitterbug.
Brandy Hughes and Austin Green took home the Fun Award. They performed a hula hoop dance. Guns and Badges also earned the Crowd Pleasers Award.
“It was a night of fellowship, friends, food, fun and great entertainment,” Munkus said. “And a good time was had by all.”
The Pell City Line Dancers are selling DVDs and photo CDs to continue raising funds for the Sheriff’s Department. To purchase, call or text Doris Munkus at 205-473-4063.
