November 9 marked the conclusion of another successful year of the Pell City Police Department’s Citizens Firearms Training.
The quarterly classes, which are a program of the Pell City Police Department, are designed to teach the basics of safe weapons handling, basic operational techniques, and legal aspects  of firearm ownership.  The classes, which consist of classroom instruction and “hands on” instruction on a firing range, were taught by Head Firearms Instructor Jimmy Woodard with assistance from Officers Phillip Rowe and Steve Gaines, Sergeants Alan Shaddix and Don Newton, and local attorney Lance Bell.
Police Chief Greg Turley said “these classes, which are free of charge, are extremely popular with our citizens and are a great opportunity for us to further serve the community.  The Citizens Firearms Training Program has strong support from the citizens as well as our mayor, city council, and city manager.  This is one of many outreach programs our department has to try to serve the needs of our citizens.”
Scheduling for 2014 classes will begin in December, and anyone interested can contact the Pell City Police Department for more information.
