Every Tuesday, a group of ladies from Pell City gather for lunch to fellowship, pray, and support each other. They also want to support the community.

The group of women from all different churches in the community recently placed a Blessings Box in the parking lot of Jamison Taylor’s School of Music at 1916 1st Ave North, Pell City across from Pell City City Hall.

The box was built and donated by Jeff and Dawn Lovell and the glass was donated by H & H Glass. The group, along with Pruitt & Richardson, P.C., gathered supplies including canned goods, toiletry items, and pet food, to fill the box for people in need.

“We are so excited to give back,” Nicole Henderson Walters, a founder of the group, said.  “Dawn (Lovell) is very involved with the Harvest Center, the Love Pantry, and we volunteer with the Goodworks Foundation, but we were still seeing needs not met. We wanted to add one more resource for people to be fed in our county.”

The Blessings Box is free and available to those in need in the community. Walters said the group would also like to place additional boxes in Cropwell and Riverside in the future.

The group was looking at several locations to place the Blessings Box but ultimately decided on the lot next to Jamison Taylor’s because of the accessibility, lighting, and safety concerns.

Individuals can take what they need from the box, which also has a place to put prayer requests on the side. People can also make donations, by placing needed items in the box. Requirements for donations are no razorblades or sharp objects, no chocolate or sodas (which can melt or explode in higher heat conditions,) and no perishable items.  Accepted items are toiletries (shampoos, body wash, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, etc.), pet food items, canned foods, and non-perishable food items.

“We would also like people to be mindful of the time of year,” Walters said. “For instance, during back to school we would accept school supplies.”

It is also requested that no clothing items be left and barcodes on items be blacked-out to prevent returns.

The women’s group meets every noon on Tuesday at Azteca’s in Pell City. For more information about joining the group or donating, contact Nicole Anderson Walters at 205-753-0225.
