According to an update from the St. Clair County EMA, the fire in St. Clair County is now contained and being monitored.
However, the fire will continue to burn 6-10 days, which is expected to cause heavy smoke in the same location — three miles from Hwy 174 and seven miles from Pleasant Valley Rd.
From the founder of Majestic Outdoor (the hunting club the fire was on):
“After spending 7 hours at the front lines of the fire, Alabama Forestry Commission is really getting after this fire. They have built numerous “double-wide” fire breaks around the area to contain it. At last report, they were going to set some back fires to slow burn toward the middle and burn itself out. As long as the wind doesn’t pick up over the next few days, the fire itself should burn out. There will still be a heavy smokey area all around the Hwy. 174, Hwy. 411 & Hwy. 231 loop. If you live inside of this area, you will definitely see & smell smoke. There is no eminent danger to homes, people or livestock at this time.”
