Domestic disturbance report in Ashville ends in fatal, officer-involved shooting

State authorities are currently investigating an officer-involved fatal shooing in Ashville over the weekend.
According to a release from Ashville Chief of Police Dennis Matthews, on Sunday, Feb. 28 at approximately 4:28 p.m., the department received a call reporting a domestic disturbance. Matthews reported that officers arrived at the location, 285 5th Ave., within one minute of the call.
Matthews said officers encountered a man with a gun at the residence. Shots were fired, and the suspect was pronounced dead on scene, the release reads.
The suspect, whose name was not released but has been reported as 41-year-old Nathan Grissom, had an “active protection from abuse order” filed against him by his wife, who lived at the address. The scene was turned over to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.
The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the State’s investigation.
