Waste Management has replaced GFI for garbage service in the City of Leeds.

According to a press release from the city, this action was not initiated by the City of Leeds.

“It was a corporate takeover with the purchase of GFI by WM. There was no advance warning for the city to notify anyone in advance and the action was effective immediately.”

The release also stated, “Nothing should change with the residential or business garbage service. The garbage cans should remain the same. The service should remain the same. The pickup days will remain the same. The pricing should remain the same.

Garbage customers need to reach out to Waste Management to set up their accounts.

According to the city, WM sent out a flyer the week of Nov. 11, from WM to all former GFL customers in Leeds, providing contact information for WM. This flyer included the updated customer service number that residents should now use for all Waste Management-related inquiries and issues.

Customers who did not receive that information can set up their account by calling 866-971-2260 or visiting its website at https://wm.com.

Any service issues with WM not resolved through customer service, can submit a complaint using the city’s online service issue form. This submission notifies both the city staff and WM’s designated contacts, officially initiating a resolution timeline.
