Straight Talk Wireless pro Scott Canterbury, Springville, brought a five-bass limit weighting 13 pounds, 14 ounces to the scale Sunday, finishing second at the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Murray presented by Walmart.
With a four-day total of 19 bass weighing 51 pounds, 1 ounce, Canterbury lost by one ounce to Chevy pro Anthony Gagliardi, who weighed in 19 bass totaling 51 pounds, 2 ounces.
Canterbury earned $60,000 for his runner-up finish in bass fishing’s world championship that featured 45 of the best professional anglers from across the country casting for the sport’s largest payouts.
“It would have been huge to win, but I left it all out on the water today,” said Canterbury, who finished runner-up at the Forrest Wood Cup for the second time in the past three years. “I figured out something on the second day of practice, and I should have had a bigger bag. But, I didn’t get them all in the boat. That’s fishing.”
Finishing sixth was Matt Herren of Ashville, who reeled in 20 bass weighing 48 pounds, good for earnings of $30,500.
