Authorities reopened northbound lanes on I-59 following a 24-vehicle accident on April 6, only to close them again two miles down the road.

Late this afternoon, Alabama State Troopers worked a second accident scene on I-59 northbound near the 156 mile marker. The crash involved a pickup truck and an Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) truck that was providing traffic control for the previous crash.

The driver of the pickup was transported to UAB. The extent of injury is unknown at this time.

According to a release from Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Department of Public Safety, the northbound lanes of I-59 were closed following a multiple vehicle crash. Jarrett said the accident occurred around noon on April 6. At least 10 people were injured in the accident.

The accident was located near mile marker 154 in Springville, and traffic was detoured to Exit 154 onto U.S. 11 Northbound.

Twenty passenger cars, three tractor-trailers and one truck pulling an RV were involved in the accident.
