With win, Green Wave can take Region

The Leeds Green Wave made the trip down U.S. 280 to Childersburg and dismantled the Tigers in a 54-0 shutout. Leeds can wrap up the region title this Friday night against Holtville.
The Green Wave did not waste any time getting started in their game last Friday night. On the games second play, Josephus Smith caused a Tiger fumble and Leeds recovered the ball at the Childersburg 22 yard line. Five plays later, Tre Nation cashed in from 3 yards out. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but Leeds led 6-0 with 9:32 left in the first quarter. TaDarryl Marshall scored from nine yards out on the Green Waves next possession. With Morgan Costons extra point, Leeds led 13-0 after one quarter.

The Green Wave used some trickery on their first possession on the second quarter when receiver Koi Freeman found quarterback Marshall on a 42 yard sprint down the sideline. The extra point was good. Leeds led 19-0 with 11:48 left in the half.
The Green Wave’s next score was set up by a Josephus Smith punt block, giving Leeds the ball at the Childersburg 35 yard line. Once again five plays later, Nation scored from two yards out to put Leeds up 26-0 with the extra point. Nation closed out the first half with a 5-yard touchdown to give Leeds a 33-0 lead at half time.
TaDarryl Marshall was pretty busy in the third quarter for the Green Wave. After receiving a touchdown from Freeman in the first half, he hit Freeman for a 45-yard touchdown. Marshall followed that up with a 45 yard punt return for a touchdown. Leeds was cruising along up 47-0 after three quarters.
Jermain Williams got the only score for both teams in the fourth quarter with a powerful 25 yard run for a touchdown. Leeds was up 54-0 and that was the final score.
Tre Nation led the Green Wave ground attack with 13 carries for 114 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jermain Williams added 64 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown. TaDarryl Marshall had the stats of the night. Marshall was 6 of 8 passing for 110 yards and a touchdown. He had a 9 yard touchdown run, and a 45 yard punt return for a touchdown. He caught a 46 yard touchdown from Koi Freeman and later threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to Freeman.
Josephus Smith led the Green Wave defense with 12 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt.
A win by the Green Wave against Holtville tomorrow night will wrap up the region title and the regular season. Leeds will have a bye week before heading into the playoffs. Kick off for Holtville at Leeds will be at 7 p.m. at Homer Smiles field tomorrow night, Oct. 23.
