James Fields, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of the State of Alabama, will be the special guest speaker of the St. Clair County Democrats on July 17.  The event will be held at the Pell City Recreation Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Fields, whose political experience includes serving in the Alabama House of Representatives, will face incumbent Kay Ivey in the November election.

A Methodist pastor and a coach who has mentored hundreds of children, Fields is a native of the small community of Colony in rural Cullman County.  He comes from a farming family, graduated from Hanceville High School, holds a degree in law enforcement from Jacksonville State University and completed two years of officer training at the Marine Corps Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

His work experience includes nearly 30 years in a supervisory role at the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations as well as serving in the State House of Representatives for Alabama District 12.

He is running his campaign on the basis that “We can do better” and work together to move Alabama forward.  If Fields is elected, he will be the first African American to hold statewide office in Alabama.  It is notable that he won his seat in the State House from Cullman, garnering 60% of the vote in a district that is 98% white and 80% Republican.

Fields and his wife, Yvette Moorer Fields, have seven children and 28 grandchildren.
