Lanie Lucas takes a moment with her husband Bryan in the kitchen of their Odenville home, where they enjoy the hilly countryside views.

“My boys are doing pretty well today,” Lanie Lucas observed, sipping Coke from an LSU cup while watching the Tigers play Ole Miss.

The Louisiana native was taking in the game with her husband, Bryan, in the living room of their Odenville home, punctuating conversation with cheers for her favorite team.

Their family:  Currently on maternity leave with their first child, she and Bryan, formerly a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, were married in Florida in September 2009.  “I always knew I’d get married on the beach.  Destin was just perfect for that. It was such a tranquil setting. Waves were crashing in the background, I was barefoot on the beach, and it was simple, elegant, and beautiful.”

Their St. Clair County domicile: “We sacrifice on the drive [to Birmingham for work] because we love it here. Unlike a lot of places closer to town, I can see our neighbors without touching their house if I reach out my kitchen window. We also have a lot of outdoor living spaces. It’s nice to sit out on the front porch swing and look at the mountains and see the stars at night.”

Her decorating style:  “Contemporary. I love color, but you will not walk into a house of mine and see a bright purple wall. I like neutrals with a patch of color in a throw pillow a piece of art on the wall.”

How she describes herself: “Outgoing, friendly, trusting and giving, a loyal friend. I’m goofy at times.  I’m usually the one in the group who keeps everyone giggling. I try to be a good listener. I want to see the good in everybody.”

Her pets: Two dogs, Buster and Chesty.  “Buster has no idea he only weighs 3 pounds. He acts like he’s a 100-pound Rottweiler.”

Her favorite indulgence:  “Shoes — I have between 30 and 35 pairs — and ridiculously expensive beer, the kind that costs $14 for a six-pack. That’s pretty indulgent. I have champagne taste on a beer budget.”
