Elise Adkins had an “Enchanted” evening when she was crowned St. Clair County Junior Miss Saturday. The program at Springville Middle School kept true to its Disney theme, with a fitness “Mousercise” portion, Disney trivia, being divided into Mickey and Minnie groups and music from movies like “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Adkins, who participated in the program as a Little Sister for two years before competing, said she was happy and surprised to be named the 2011 Junior Miss.

“I was so shocked,” Adkins said. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m so excited about representing my county.”

A rising senior at Moody High School, Adkins performed a jazz dance to “Foot Loose” by Kenny Loggins. Adkins, daughter of Ronnie and Melissa Adkins, said she enjoys this program because it shows girls that it is what is on the inside that counts. She said she will work hard to prepare for Alabama’s Junior Miss State Program, which is Jan. 14 and 15.

The program was divided into five judging categories: 25 percent for interview, 25 percent for talent, 20 percent for scholastics, 15 percent for self-expression and 15 percent for fitness.
