Both the Leeds Green Wave and the St. Clair Fighting Saints still have undefeated region records as they approach games today and Friday, but Leeds remains the county’s only undefeated team.

Following the Green Wave’s 24-7 win against the Saints last week, Leeds faces Central Coosa in UPN 68’s Game of the Week at 7 p.m. today.  Coach Keith Etheredge noted that it’s the first time this season the Green Wave will play a team that isn’t undefeated.

The Saints visit Oneonta at 7 p.m. Friday, hoping to avenge a loss to the Redskins last year that kept them out of the playoffs.

Shane McGinnis completed three of seven passes for Leeds against St. Clair, gaining 69 yards and a touchdown.  Dylan Shelton averaged 28 yards on five punt returns and caught a touchdown pass.  Dedrick Forsythe rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown.

Tez Goldsby was St. Clair’s leading rusher with 62 yards on 10 carries.  Fabian Moody ran nine times for 44 yards and the Saints’ lone touchdown.

“We just didn’t seem to have the get-up-and-go to play a team like Leeds,” said Saints coach Charlie Boren.  “We got rattled early, made some mistakes, and had some breaks go against us.  It was not a good night for us, and Leeds had a little more to play for than we did.”

Etheredge said the win brought the first-ranked Green Wave closer to its goal of an undefeated season.

“Our guys have really bought into that.  We’re taking it one game at a time, but St. Clair County is a great football team, and we wanted to play well against them.  Our offensive line blocked really well, and our defense looked really good.  Our guys looked a lot better than we have in previous games.”
