Free legal help for April 27 tornado victims

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), the largest non-profit law firm in Alabama, will provide free legal help to tornado victims with tornado related legal issues thanks to a grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund.

LSA provides free legal assistance to individuals appealing denials of FEMA grant assistance and Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. LSA also provides free legal assistance with insurance related matters, building contractors disputes, as well as, landlord tenant issues, Social Security and Public Benefits related matters. LSA is also providing free legal assistance to municipalities and certain community organizations (e.g. volunteer fire departments) in unincorporated areas that need help with disaster related issues. Assistance is also provided for future disaster recovery grant applications. Assistance is available at any stage of the grant application process including initial applications, assistance with pending applications, and appeals.
Storm victims interested in seeking free legal help from LSA should call 1-866-456-4995 or apply on-line at www.AlabamaLegalHelp.org. LSA Staff will be available to meet with storm survivors in St. Clair County in person every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the St. Clair County Courthouse located at 100 6th Avenue, Ashville.
LSA is funded in large part by the federal government through the Legal Services Corporation in Washington, DC. LSA actively provides free civil legal assistance to low-income Alabamians and has been active in the Katrina and BP recovery efforts as well as the current recovery following the tornados of April 27, 2011.
