FOOTBALL: Moody Blue Devils

Published 2:30 pm Thursday, August 25, 2011

2010 record:  0-10.

Last week’s jamboree:  The Blue Devils were defeated by Springville, 21-13.

Rebuilding:  After last year’s winless season, new head coach Jay Brown says he sees signs of improvement.  “We had a tremendous summer program.  We’ve made a lot of strides, and I’m really proud of the players. They work hard and do whatever we ask them to do.”

Recovering mentally:  “Our returning players remember last year, which was as bad a year as you can possibly have in the game of football.  Not only were we 0-10, but we lost by a wide margin in most games.  That’s not something we talk about because we’re looking forward.  This is a new team and a new season.  The attitude we’re seeing isn’t the attitude of a team that went 0-10.  It’s the attitude of a team that is hungry for success.”

What he expects for the season:  “I would hope we will be a football team you can be proud of.  When you come watch us play, you’ll see a team that’s organized, that’s playing hard and together, and that continously makes progress throughout the year.”

Players to watch:  Senior Justin Ulmer at free safety and wide receiver and senior Heath McGuff at running back.
