Step back in time: Experience 1950s Leeds at Historic Walking Tour

Dust off your poodle skirts and slick back your hair. The city of Leeds is will host a nostalgic journey into the heart of the 1950s with a special walking tour Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Rain date will be April 26.
This unique event will transform the historic streets of Leeds (Parkway Drive between 7th and 9th Street) into a vibrant snapshot of a bygone era, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and flavors of the 1950s.
“We are incredibly excited to offer this immersive experience to our community and visitors alike,” said Ron Howard, 2025 History Walk captain. “The 1950s was a transformative decade and we’re eager to showcase how Leeds reflected the spirit of that time. This walking tour will bring history to life in a fun and engaging way.”
The 1950s Walking Tour will feature:
— Historical re-enactors: Interact with characters from the era, bringing the stories of Leeds’ past to life.
— Informative displays: Explore exhibits detailing the architecture, businesses and daily life of 1950s Leeds.
— Live music and dancing: Enjoy the sounds of Leeds High School Jazz Ensemble and dance at a sock hop with music by Elvis Tribute Artist, Aiden Joiner
— Food Trucks: Savor delicious offerings from local food vendors.
— Attendees will embark on a self-guided walking tour, stopping at significant landmarks and historical sites throughout Leeds. Each stop will offer a glimpse into the past, highlighting the unique charm and character of the city during this iconic decade and will feature historic figures portrayed by talented local re-enactors.
This family-friendly event is perfect for history buffs, nostalgia seekers and anyone looking for a fun and educational Saturday outing.
In addition to the interactive walking tour, other happenings around town will include Market on Main, Yellowhammer Antiques’ Springfest, Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser, Greenwave Giveaway Dinner and more.
The 1950s Leeds Historic Walking Tour is presented by Leeds Historical Commission, Leeds Redevelopment Authority, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, Leeds Jane Culbreth Library, Leeds Historical Society with support from Leeds Water Works Board and Leeds Main Street.
