(Column) All About Ashville

Some people started preparing for Christmas Dec. 26, 2023, when all things merry and bright were eighty percent off. Others started before Halloween. Now, they can relax and watch the Christmas tree lights twinkle over stacks of wrapped presents.

Many just looked at the calendar and panicked. But it is surprising how much you can get done when it has to get done. Even when there are just a few seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter, you can still get to the end zone.

Some say gift cards are impersonal. But they don’t have to be. A gift certificate to a restaurant for the young couple with kids who are desperate for a night out is a godsend.

Know someone who adores his or her pet and likes to paint? The Little Art Tree is offering a Paint Your Pet class Jan. 17. The class is for all skill levels. The owner, Jess Alexander, will create gift certificates. For more information call 205-405-5820.

The St. Clair County Arena and Event Center has gift certificates that last all year. For horse lovers, there is the Open Ride membership. To hone basketball, volleyball and pickleball skills, purchase the event center membership.

If you know someone who is already a member, you can buy the next year’s membership. They have printable and physical gift certificates. Call 205-629-2861 to purchase.

Of course, many of us are on tight budgets. Maybe you can’t give that couple a night out. But, you can give them a coupon for free babysitting. You can’t go wrong with pictures and probably have gems in your phone you haven’t thought about.

And any gift that can be stuffed in a coffee mug with candy should be because you can never have too much of either.

Have a great week Ashville. Whether you are making time to enjoy the fruits of your efforts or making last minute Christmas gifts, you are making memories.
