At The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Sept. 19 luncheon, attendees received an update from Leeds City Schools officials. Mary Beth Lockridge, who leads Family and Community Engagement for Leeds City Schools, and John Moore, Superintendent of Leeds City Schools, led the presentation.

Lockridge shared updates on her work supporting Leeds City Schools (K-8), including: mentoring new and new-to-Leeds teachers; advocating for and partnering with LCS families; and coordinating community involvement and events. Lockridge said Leeds is one of the first school systems in Alabama to offer parenting classes.

Lockridge touted success stories from the system, including: outstanding AP scores at Leeds High School; the Child Nutrition Program excels, consistently achieving top marks in health inspections; more than 500 grandparents attending “Grilling with Grands” at Leeds Primary School; the Homer Smiles Project at the high school football field will soon begin; and all 3rd graders advanced to the 4th grade last year under the state’s literacy act. Lockridge has also recently launched her “Greenwave Greatness” initiative, where she gives weekly recognition to individuals making a difference.
