Happy Independence Day, Ashville. This is a great holiday. It has everything. The history of our great nation, summer, swimming and grilling out.

Whether you are going out, to a friend’s or hosting your own celebration, history indicates you will do it right. There will be some celebrating at Pinedale Fire Department on the July 6 and a chance to support our local firefighters.

But there are a few more news items that warrant mentioning.

The Ashville High School Dance Line did an amazing job at dance camp in Auburn. They won so many awards and recognitions, one wonders if there are any left for the other competitors: red ribbons, blue ribbons, four spirit sticks, The Superior Squad Trophy and the 110 Percent Award.

Whew! Well done, team. We can’t wait to see you wow the crowds this fall!

The thing about summer vacation is, it goes by so fast. For those of you with students ranging from fifth to eighth grade, it’s already time to put registration for the next school year on your calendar. The day is July 25. For fifth and sixth grade, the time is 3-5 p.m. For seventh and eighth, it is 5-7 p.m. Don’t forget to use Power School enrollment with your snap code. If you don’t have a snap code email michelle.rogers@sccboe.

There is one disadvantage about the season and its holiday. This is the time of year most pets go missing. The sound of the fireworks are just too unnerving for them. Keep them inside and comforted.

At this time of year, they might like a few ice cubes in their ball and a fresh brushing or haircut to help keep them cool. And, what the hay, why not let them have a little barbecue too? Not too much to ask for man’s best friend.
