Ashville teen dies in swimming accident

An Ashville High School student has died after a swimming accident.

According to a press release from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Clair County Patrol Division was dispatched to a call in the Shoal Creek area of Ashville in reference to a 17 year old male who had hit his head while swimming. The teen was unresponsive.

CPR was administered at the scene and patient was taken to St. Vincents St. Clair where he was declared dead shortly after arriving.

“Please join us in praying for his family and friends in this most difficult time,” sheriff Billy J. Murray said in a statement.

Ashville High School announced on its Facebook page that counseling would be offered for all Ashville High School students and staff on Friday, June 21.
