Congratulations to the Ashville High School baseball team. They beat Jacksonville Christian. This makes their season record 4 in 1.

And a special shout out to Easton Layton. He shut out the opposition for six winnings.

We look forward to seeing what he does in the future.

Ashville has a strong and successful Future Farmers of America program. The advantages to this are almost innumerable. There is a beauty in this independence and self-sufficiency that comes from living off the land and by doing so, preserving that land.

The same can be said for raising one’s own food. To know that what they have been fed without fear of hormones or unhealthy preservatives. To know that they have been treated humanely without fear of animal cruelty.

It can also pay off.

The St Clair County Cattleman’s Association is offering a $7,500 scholarship. It is available to all high school and college students. Applications are available upon request. Email stclairttleman’sassociation@gmail.com.

But hurry because the deadline is April 1.

Organizations like Future Farmers of America and agricultural education in Ashville is growing strong. In fact, the same can be said for the whole of St Clair County.
