The origins of Valentine’s Day are said to go back to the third century. According to lore, emperor Claudius outlawed marriage because it prevented men from wanting to go to war. It is said that St Valentine performed marriages in secret.
But Valentine’s Day is not just for celebrating romantic love.
Ragland Elementary School is participating in the Hearts Around the World Project. They are hoping to receive cards from as far and wide as possible to put on a map. The idea is to get kids excited about learning map skills. Please send cards to Ragland Elementary c/o Mrs Wren’s third grade at 1060 main Street Ragland Alabama 35131.
The Little Art Tree’s Valentine’s Day market has two new vendors. Barry and Micki Markham will be there setting up their Valentine’s Day cards. They have cards for school, teachers, parents and friends and addition to that special someone.
On the subject of school, St. Clair County is looking for substitute teachers. This is a great job for stay at home parents, The retired, or anyone who has the time and loves kids. The extra money doesn’t hurt either. There is a link on the What’s Happening in Ashville Facebook page or just Google substitute teaching in St. Clair County, Ala.
Throughout the month of February the cowboy Church student ministries will be hosting Fantastic February. Free food and drinks at 100 Arena Drive Odenville, Ala. For more information call Christy Westbrook at 205-973-9706.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s office has issued a warning. Scammers are calling citizens telling them they miss jury duty and instructing them to pay for this transgression. The sheriff’s office would never call citizens instructing them to pay money. Sadly, there is no way to report these people so just hang up.
Have a great week, Ashville! Celebrate everyone you love. Then start digging out your green clothes in shamrocks. The next holiday is just a leprechaun’s leap away.
