Commissioner Tommy Bowers has announced his candidacy for St. Clair County Commission District 3. Bowers was appointed to the Commission by Governor Robert Bentley in 2014. He served 13 years in the Alabama Army National Guard and retired from Alabama Power Company after a 43-year career, eventually serving as local manager of the Pell City and Ashville offices. He has received recognition such as the Greater Pell City Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year and a Paul Harris Fellow award from the Pell City Rotary Club.
Bowers contributes to various organizations, including the East Central Alabama Industrial Development Board and the St. Clair County Economic Development Council, serving as the first ever Chairman, which later earned him the honor of its first-ever Chairman’s Award.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as the Commissioner from District 3. We have so much to be proud of in St. Clair County. Since my time on the Commission, we have funded numerous infrastructure projects, facilitated historical economic development, and paved the way for our county to compete with surrounding areas, but there is still much to be done,” Bowers said.
During his tenure, Bowers has contributed to developments around the county and worked to improve the quality of life for every citizen. Some recent accomplishments consist of the new, state-of-the-art correctional facility located in Pell City for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, an AHSAA-certified recreational complex located in Odenville, and providing access to county-wide communications, bridging a safety barrier that posed a major threat to every citizen and first responder in St. Clair County.
He and his wife, Sherry, have been married for 52 years, raising three children and enjoying seven grandchildren. The Republican primary will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
