Rotary International is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who unite and take action to create lasting change in communities across the globe. In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus, and in 1988 helped establish the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with other world organizations to immunize the children of the world against polio. These were just a couple of the statements included in a proclamation made by the Trussville City Council honoring the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club in recognition of World Polio Day.

Many of the club’s members were on hand for the announcement of the proclamation on Tuesday, Oct.24.

The eradication of polio is one of Rotary International’s longest standing and most significant efforts. Along with their partners, Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. They have reduced polio cases by 99.9% worldwide.

The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club meets at First Baptist Church Trussville on Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m.
