Yet another congratulations for the Ashville High School varsity and junior volleyball varsity teams. Both took down Etowah. Way to go ladies!
According to some, holiday season starts the day after Halloween. According to others, it begins the day after Thanksgiving. But no one knows by whom or on what authority. In Ashville, homecoming is like a holiday.
High schoolers dress up, but for five days. Just about every inanimate object in the city is covered with high school colors. Class officers decorate the high school halls. Change the colors and it’s almost like Christmas!
Like Thanksgiving, there is all the pageantry of the parade: The AHS award-winning band performs throughout the town. There’s every kind of float from every class and every group. and this holiday ends with football. In this part of the world, football is something every holiday should contain. In fact some games are holidays in and of themselves.
This year it doesn’t end with the Friday night game and dance.
On Saturday, there will be a homecoming dance in honor of Terrie Harris Mickel, who is having health issues. The proceeds will go toward doctor bills and other medical expenses.
The dance will be held at Rose chapel in Attalla. It is for grades 9-12. It begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. The attire is however the kids want to dress … within reason, of course.
Homecoming is also similar to St Patrick’s Day. You will definitely want to wear your Ashville green.
Have a great week Ashville and enjoy that parade!
