Congratulations to Daniel Cook at Ashville Middle School. The vice principal won the lunchroom legends award for his health in the cafeteria. Educators often wear more than one hat and he clearly wears his well.

Well then, to the Ashville High School varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams. Both took down the Blue Devils at Etowah. This is the second win in a row for both teams. Well done Lady Dawgs!

Bunk beds Across America is a wonderful organization. They build the bunk beds for children who have nowhere to sleep. On Sept. 9, they will be at rainbow City Middle School at 9 a.m. they also need muscle and a couple hours of your time. Go to shpbeds.org/bunks-across-america/ to register.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, Springville is hosting an ice cream social. This is to celebrate the progress at Little Rock School. Indeed there is much to celebrate.

At one time the windows were broken. The roof was unsafe. There was water damage and of colony of bats calling it home. There was talk of tearing it down. Then, the Springville Historical Society stepped in.

The organization restored the site and made it a functioning building again. They even found another empty building for the bats. According to the society, there have been huge improvements this past year.

So come to Little Rock School on pine Road in Springville this Sunday. Celebrate their efforts with free ice cream from 2-4 p.m. There will also be a pop-up gift shop.

Sounds like a perfect place to buy souvenirs. A memento of St. Clair County’s passionate dedication to its history and culture.

Not that free ice cream itself isn’t enough to reason to attend.

Have a great week Ashville. Get as much rest as you can now that school has started back and Labor Day is over. Because it won’t be long until the weather gets chillier and the air gets spookier.
