Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Pell City will host a singing school on Sunday, July 10 through July 15, beginning at 6:30 each night.
The director/instructor will be Tom Powell, son of Rosa Nell Speer of the Speer family and grandson of G.T. Speer, who wrote many of the gospel songs we sing. Some of these songs are “Heaven’s Jubilee,” “I Shall Never Forget the Day,” and many others.
Accompanist will be the Dove award winning Tracey Phillips, from Roswell, Georgia. Rudiments of music, sight singing and shape note reading are areas of music which will be covered in the school.
Ms. Phillips is also available to teach private piano lessons.
There will be a charge of $30 for the songbook, materials and to help cover school expenses.
The closing program, which will be a singing of the songs learned in the school will be July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Please plan to take advantage of this excellent opportunity. Please contact kredena025@yahoo.com if you plan to attend the school.
Happy birthday to my great-granddaughter, Ripley Scott and Ken Moore who will both celebrate June 30. Florence Kerr, July 1, Elizabeth “Liz” Williams, July 2 and Debbie Latta, July 5! Ripley is the daughter of my grandson, Joe Scott and Rachel Scott, who both live in Greensboro, NC.
Monday, July 4, is Independence Day, a legal holiday in the U.S. when we will celebrate the 246th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Parents and grandparents, let’s take this time to teach our young children/grandchildren the meaning of this very special holiday.
I wish all you readers and your families a happy and safe 4th of July!
