Birthday greetings go out to my sweet daughter, Laura Adams, and to Erin Williams, Leah Harris, Miranda Waldrop, Leslie Cobb, Linda Reece, Allison Ballard, Alex McCain, Rita Foster, Mack Bell, Mary Lee, Saundra Lewis, Gail Hannah, Jennifer Lavender, Paul Miller, Rita Foster, Jamie Merrymon, Vickie Harmon, Derrick Andrews, Tara Bell-Hazelwood, and Gene Tuggle.

Congratulations to those having wedding anniversaries in June, including Nickie and Charlie McKee, Leslie and Joey Cobb, Betty Jane and Don Vardaman, Shannon and Chad Cochran, Gina and Curtis Collins. Special blessings to those celebrating their marriages.

PCHS Panther Basketball team has played several games recently. They went 3 for 3 on Friday, June 3rd at the CEPA. Monday, they played 2 games at the Fort McClellan Aquatic and Sports Center. They handily beat Sylacauga. Game against Oxford was another story. Scoring was neck and neck until time ran out and we lost by 1 point, 62-61. But our boys are playing great.

Congratulations to PCHS students who made 2022 Women’s Soccer All State: Saylor Richard, Maddie Grace Osborne, and Kristin Kurzejeski. Honorable mentions go to Caroline Pinson, Olevia Brasher, and Taylor Bell.

Congratulations to Coach Wayne Lee on his official retirement. Coach Lee was at PCHS for 13 years. Also retiring from PCHS is Nan Austin. Nan and her husband are moving to Daytona, FL where she will be teaching English at the University High School in Daytona.

Congratulations to Ganae Gaines who was awarded the Lisa Pope Excellence Award and the Honorary Commander Award from the PCHS JROTC. Mrs. Gaines is leaving PCHS for her new position as Asst. Principal at Homewood High School. She will be greatly missed.

The 13th Annual Riverside Poker Run, an annual fund-raising event hosted by Riverside Beautification Organization (a Non-profit to raise funds to improve and beautify City of Riverside, Alabama) will be Sat. June 18th from 10-2. Early registration will be Fri., June 18th from 4-7. It will be at Riverside Landing, 230 Depot Street, Riverside, Alabama 35135. This year’s proceeds will be used to build a new municipal playground.

The Logan Martin LakeFest & Boat Show was a huge success. There were plenty of boats, music, food, and people. The organization uses this as a fundraiser for the community and charity.

PCHS Soccer Camp will be held June 27-30 for girls and boys in 1st-6th grade this fall. Session 1 will be 8-11am. Session 2 will be 5-8pm and will be at the Pell City Civic Center Fields.

Pell City Lady Panther Basketball Camp will be June 29-July 1 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the CEPA. This is for girls 7-14.

Pell City Panther Boys’ Basketball Camp will be held July 25-28 from 1-4pm at the CEPA for rising 1st-6th grades. Cost is $50. Instructors will be Coaches Jeff Smith, House, Swann, Kersh and Varsity players. Players will develop fundamental skills and receive a Panther Camp T-Shirt. Sign up now.

The Black Jacket Symphony Presents AC/DC’s “Back in Black” at the CEPA on Fri, 6/10/2022 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $36. On Fri, 7/8/2022 at 7:00 PM, CEPA presents Local Sounds: Coosa Phat Katz. Tickets are $10. On Sun, 7/24/2022 at 2:00 PM, CEPA presents Run Through the Jungle feat. The WingNuts. Tickets are $20.

Dates for the 2022 Spotlight Summer Drama Camp at the CEPA have been set, and registration is now open! July 11-22 are the dates. Register at pellcitycepa.com/camp.

Cropwell Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School registration is now open. Register your child/children at https://cropwell.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1277326. VBS is open to children entering K4 — 6th grade. VBS begins Sunday, July 17 and will run through July 20th (6:30pm — 8:30pm)

Pell City First Baptist Church will hold its VBS from Mon, Jun 6th at 8:30am to Fri, Jun 10th at 11:30am. Get those creative juices flowing at Spark Studios where imagination is ignited, and creativity is awakened! Kids will discover that their creativity is a gift from the infinitely creative Creator who designed them for His glory!

Pell City First United Methodist Church will hold its VBS on June 27-29 from 6:00-8:00pm Cost: FREE, Wednesday night churchwide, FOOD TRUCK Dinner! Rising 4k-7th grade

And I know you don’t like to think about getting older and the issues that come with it, but it is especially important that you plan ahead to avoid ending up in an expensive and/or adversarial situation. There are 3 documents that all people need to have at the ready before any health crisis or emergency arises. These are a durable power of attorney, a health care proxy (advanced living will), and a will. The 1st 2 will take care of you at the end of life and the 3rd covers after you pass away. You can do your own online as long as you follow all the directions, or you can visit your attorney. The important thing is to just get them done.
