Hello everyone. Welcome to May 2022. School is almost out, and I know the kids are getting excited. Keep those teachers in your prayers. They may have a tough time keeping the students’ minds on lessons.
A special happy birthday to my friend, Benny Mathis. Congratulations to PCHS student, Ethan Young, for earning his Eagle Scout Rank this year.
Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Lady Panthers and Coach Wayne Lee on finishing the season with a 28-2 record.
Congratulations to these Panthers moving to the next level. Jack Lowe signed with Jacksonville State University to run cross country and track. Mya McDanal signed with the UAB Blazers to run Women’s Track and Field. Abie Jenkins and Abby Little both signed with Auburn University Montgomery to run cross country and track.
Congratulations to PCHS Seniors, Nela Coleman, Madeline Foote, Catherine Pinson, and J’Kaylen Swain. They were awarded Smith Foundation Scholarships. Nela received the Finalist Award of $5,000 per year. She also received a College Count Scholarship and plans to attend JSU. Madeline won a full Smith Scholarship of $20,000 per year and a College Count Scholarship of $4,000 and plans to attend JSU. Catherine is receiving the Smith Foundation Interview Award of $10,000 per year and plans to attend Troy. J’Kaylen won a full Smith Scholarship of $20,000 per year. She was also awarded a Linly Heflin Scholarship of $4,000 and plans to attend the University of Montevallo.
Congratulations to PCHS students, Faith Franklin, and Patience LeBrun. Their art is part of the 2022 Statewide High School Juried Art Exhibit.
Congratulations to PCHS student Austin Burnham who qualified for Golf Sub-State in Mobile.
Congratulations to the PCHS Women’s Soccer Team who finished the season 15th in the state.
In honor of the Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the St. Clair County District Attorney’s Office will host a blook drive. It will be Friday, April 29th at the St. Clair County Courthouse in Pell City. The LifeSouth bus will be there from 10:30-4:00. Walk-ups are welcome or you can preregister at lifesouth.org.
Want to see Tristen Gressett live? He will be playing his first concert Saturday, May 7th at CEPA. Concert will be from 7-9pm, admission is $20. Tickets will be available online or at door beginning at 6pm.
Kiwanis club of Pell City will hold a Drive Thru Pancake Supper Fundraiser Vent on Thurs., May 12th from 4pm-7pm at the PC Recreation Center. All donations will go to the Kiwanis Club of Pell City “Serving the Children of the World” Ticket donations are $5 and will include pancakes, Royal sausage, strawberries, and syrup.
From Elvis to country, Terry Turner presents “The Voice of Legends” on May 21st, 6-8 at Jumbo’s, 385 Old Coal City Rd, Pell City. Reservations online at www.tcbshows.com. Price is $20.
2022 Pell City Hometown Block Party will be Sat., June 4th from 3pm-9pm. More information to come.
Dates for the 2022 Spotlight Summer Drama Camp at the CEPA have been set, and registration is now open! July 11-22 are the dates. Register at pellcitycepa.com/camp.
The Tenth Annual Logan Martin LakeFest and Boat Show will be held May 20-22, 2022, at Lakeside Park in Pell City! This year there will be closer parking, VIP parking, fireworks, a food court, a bigger kids’ area, music, and lots and lots of boats. There will be raffle giveaways each hour This event is free to everyone. For information, go to http://www.loganmartinlakefest.com.
Have a child interested in soccer? PCHS Future Panthers 2022 Summer Soccer Mini Camp will be held on June 27-30 at the Pell City Civic Center fields with 2 sessions to choose from. This is for boys and girls who will be in grades 1-6 in Fall 2022. Cost is $75 and for more information contact Amanda.elliott@pellcityschools.net. Register at the Civic Center by June 3 to be guaranteed your t-shirt size.
