Sheriff’s Office and Moody PD determine two death investigations are related

On Monday the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the Moody Police Department responded to an unresponsive female behind Sherwin Williams in the city of Moody. They found Brandi Ann Colton, 45, to be deceased. According to the sheriff’s office report, her injuries were determined as self-inflicted.
Later the same day, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible death on 1195 Wolf Creek Road in Pell City. Nathan Loots, 46, was found dead in the residence. He had multiple gunshot wounds. The scene was investigated by the St. Clair County Criminal Investigation Division and detectives from Moody PD.

After investigation, it has been determined the two were in a relationship.
Both scenes were processed by Jacksonville State University center for Applied Forensics. JSU and the sheriff’s department are continuing to investigate the relation of the two scenes.
“He was an amazing dad and we are all really heartbroken,” said Brittany Brown, Loots’ stepdaughter.
