Jake Ganus was named the new Moody High School head football coach at the regularly scheduled BOE meeting on Tuesday night. He is currently a football coach at Thompson High School in Alabaster.

“We are super excited about what he’s going to bring to us, our players are super excited,” said Chris Walters, Moody High School principal.

Walters said Ganus has already gotten Tennessee recruiters in the school to see players.

“He’s already getting our kids looked at, so he’s already been a huge asset just in the last two or three weeks,” said Walters.

“My family is really excited to be a part of the St. Clair County and Moody family. It means a lot to us, we don’t take this lightly and it’s something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” said Ganus.

Ganus said he’s looking forward to winning some football games.

Also at the meeting: Izzy Myers, 7-12 at Moody High School, and Mariah Whiddon, K-6 at Moody Middle School, were recognized for best in show pieces at the SCCS visual art exhibit.

The board approved the revision of salary schedules for the Summer Migrant program, bookkeepers and Edstream teachers and staff.

Water line replacements at Ashville High School and Ashville Board of Education office were declared public works projects, which will both be paid with local funds.

At the end of the meeting in the superintendent report, Mike Howard said he was very proud of how much the school system had accomplished in the last year.

“As you know we were in the middle of a pandemic, and we were still able to be successful in the goals that we set forth. I’m very proud of all of our staff and all of our board members because we were able to do a whole lot during this time,” said Howard.

Some of the goals he set for 2022 are: Increase report card scores and grad rate, continue to focus on the literacy act and math, building expansions and upgrades, recruitment and retainment of staff, upgrade lighting and roofs, build new culinary building and continue summer tutoring camps to aid in a loss of learning due to covid.
