The Ashville Bulldogs bring Spring in with a swing, hits and runs.

The Ashville High School Baseball team is celebrating its first win of the season against the St. Clair County Saints with an edge of the seat score of 7-6. The lady Dogs had their first victory over Victory Christian, 12-2. Julie Mostello scored three runs. Ashlee Eastis had a home run. And only one run got by pitcher, Jade Burgess. The junior varsity continues its winning streak with a whopping 17-1 final score over Lincoln.

Well done to Ashville High School Archery team for their victory over Moody. Amanda Derrick Mostello is collecting for a computer scanner for the team. Call her at 256-613-5859 to arrange donation details.

But the youth of Ashville do not just excel at Athletics. See Ashville’s Facebook page for pictures of the elementary school’s students of distinction. They won awards and honorable mentions at the latest history fair. Congratulations to our young scholars.

High school juniors and seniors have lost.so many celebrations over the last couple of years. However, this year’s parents and faculty are determined to give the juniors and seniors a prom. Tickets are already for sale. If it can be done, Ashville will do it.

The city’s youth is fortunate to live where such high priority is placed on their well-being, success and happiness. It is something every child all over the world should know. And Suzanne Womack Salers is doing her part to share that good fortune.

Salers is host parent to Martina, a student from Italy. Martina has been working on her English for years while dreaming of seeing the U.S. To become a host parent, private message Salers for information.

To host a student from another country is an opportunity to learn about a culture beyond what can be found in books. If you have children, it will be an education and enrichment for them. And it will change the life of the child you host.

Martina will take so much from her time in the states; but she will almost certainly leave a part of her heart in the home of Salers and the city of Ashville.
