The Croaking Frog Coffee Shop & Fine Collectibles officially opened June 15, 2020. It is owned and operated by Shirley Catlin and her son, Jerry McCarty.

Shirley Catlin is a retired accountant who has inherited and also loves to collect ‘valuable stuff’ over the years. Her collection grew to such a level, that her dream of owning her own collectible and antique store soon became a reality. Shirley states, “I didn’t want just another Antique Store, so I had the bright idea to add the Coffee Shop with pastries and light meals to entice customers in to visit. While they are waiting on their coffee and food, they can browse through all of our fine collectibles and find the ‘valuable stuff’ that they just can’t live without. Our inventory in the store changes on a regular basis, as we have several storage units just packed full of ‘valuable stuff’ to showcase.”

She goes on to say, “It has been challenging at times, especially during the Pandemic, but we are getting through it. My son Jerry who is part owner, has cheerfully stuck with me throughout this endeavor. He is an awesome Barista and a great cook.”

At the Croaking Frog, they serve Breakfast daily from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Breakfast consist of Homemade Biscuits, Sausage Gravy and a Breakfast Casserole (the flavor of the casserole varies from day to day). Lunch is served from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m.. For Lunch, they have Soup and Sliders every day. Soup flavors vary from day to day; Vegetable Soup, Chili, Cheeseburger Soup, Chili Cheese Nachos and one new flavor tried each week. Soup is served with Corn Muffins; Chili is served with Tex-Mex Muffins. Sliders vary from day to day and are served with chips of your choice. They try to keep the menu simple and light and have a wide variety of sweets to choose from: Zucchini Bread, Pineapple Praline Bread, Chocolate Zucchini Bread, all sorts of Cupcakes and Muffins.

Shirley and Jerry are proud to serve locally roasted coffee from Canoe Creek Coffee in Ashville, AL. Everything is made in house from scratch and products sourced from local vendors.
