The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce recognized the outgoing high school seniors who participated in their Diplomat Program during this school year.  Those recognized at the April chamber luncheon were Katheryn Rice, Shelby Truitt, Nicole Armstrong, Dalton Cates, Camell Looney and Presley Anderson.  Also, Jay Lamar with Alabama Tourism was the guest speaker who gave lots of information on the Alabama Bicentennial.  Leeds Primary School is one of the designated schools who received a grant as a bicentennial participant.  Leeds Jane Culbreth Library has scheduled a number of events during this calendar year to celebrate and educate.   Alabama 200 is a three-year celebration of the people, places and events that form our Alabama history.  Everyone is encouraged to explore and learn about Alabama, to get involved and consider what your community can do to celebrate.  We are in the process of getting the upcoming Leeds Fall Festival John Henry Celebration on the list of Alabama Bicentennial events.  To learn more about Alabama 200 and to purchase Alabama 200 merchandise, please visit the website www.alabama200.org.

I reached out to another person on social media last week who gave me permission to share her cause and comments.  Mandy Johnson shares that it’s very easy and free to raise free money for our schools.  Many of you shop at Publix and your families shop there, too.  A percentage of your purchase will go to the school of your choice when you sign up as a fundraiser for your school.  You can create a Publix.com account and then search for your Publix partner school to raise money for.  It’s all online and after you sign up, you just put your phone number in the pin pad at the register.  It’s as simple as that.  Mandy has been a little disappointed to see the number for Leeds Primary and would like to see that number increase.  She says we can even have people in other states raise money for our babies.  This can be applied at any school that Publix sponsors.  Mandy will be happy to help anyone who has questions and says, “Come on, let’s help our schools and babies, grandchildren.”
