Fifty-one dogs were rescued from a home in Cropwell on Friday, after a call made to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 29, the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a large amount of dogs inside a residence at 30 Kendrick Mill Rd. in Cropwell according to reports. Sheriff’s deputies performed a welfare check at the home of 59-year-old Paulette Perry and discovered a large amount of dogs at the property.
A total of 51 dogs were rescued from the residence, 39 from inside and 12 from outside. St. Clair County Animal Control and Pell City Police Department arrived on the scene and assisted in the investigation, removal and transportation of the animals. The dogs were taken to the Pell City Animal Control Center for protective custody. The Pell City Animal Control Center covers all of St. Clair County and Lincoln areas.
According to the report, as the rescue progressed, four more dogs were discovered deceased in the freezer of the residence and one deceased dog was found on the floor.
The suspect, Paulette Perry, will be charged with a Class C Felony Cruelty to Dogs and her bond was set at $2500.
She is currently in the Talladega County Jail on unrelated charges.
“We are getting these animals medical assistance,” said Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin, Jr. “They were in a very bad environment. Some are sick or malnourished. We are trying to get them adopted and to good homes when they are well.”
