Salon 2113 celebrated their 6th Annual Styles Make Smiles event last week, welcoming women who are cancer survivors or currently receiving treatment.
The stylists offered hair styling, wigs, hats, scarves, make-up and nails to cancer patients and survivors. Participants also received refreshments and gift bags.
“It is just amazing to see how these women transform,” said owner Lauren Isbell. “They come in looking defeated sometimes and they leave glowing.”
Styles Make Smiles started in 2013 because Isbell wanted to do something using her talents as a cosmetologist to give back to people battling or in remission from cancer.
“Our mom and mawmaw was one of the inspirations for the event and boy did she love being pampered but mostly visiting with the one’s hurting and telling them words of hope and love,” said Teresa Carden, Isbell’s aunt, “This was because of her love for Jesus Christ. What a true feeling of joy mixed with so many other emotions!”
Around thirty women attended the event, several that were in remission and some going through treatment or about to start treatment.
“Ladies that came today, we are in awe of your beauty, strength and courage. We stand with you in the fight,” Carden said. “Mom would say, ‘Fight a good fight and keep the faith.’”
