There are currently 80 children in foster care in St. Clair County and they received a surprise for Christmas!
Bill Wakefield, owner of Martin’s Clothing, purchased 400 new bicycles that he distributed to Kiwanis Clubs in Anniston, Oxford, Gadsden, and Pell City. Pell City received 50 bicycles of various sizes for younger children up to teens to be given to children currently in the foster care system through St. Clair County DHR.
“We appreciate all the community support,” said St. Clair County DHR Director Cherri Pilkington. “This is a real blessing for the children.”
Money for 50 bicycle helmets was raised by employees for Metro Bank and donated to foster children.
Kiwanis Club of Pell City put together the 50 bicycles and delivered them to St. Clair County DHR.
“We had some special Santa’s helpers,” said Joey Stevens with Pell City Kiwanis. “Tim and Dana Jacks put all the bicycles together.”
Goodgame Company, Inc. allowed the use of their warehouse to store and assemble the bicycles.
“It’s not about us, it’s about the children,” said Dana Jacks.
Kiwanis is also volunteering their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army in front of the Martin’s location in Pell City. Their goal is to raise $3000. Currently, they have raised about $1800 according the Pell City Kiwanis President Jonathan Brogdon.
