ASPCI receives PEDIGREE Foundation Grant

Over 2,000 dogs and puppies enter shelters in the St. Clair County area every year.  In an effort to find good homes for as many of these animals as possible, Animal Shelter of Pell City, Inc. (ASPCI) selects dogs and puppies from area shelters for transport to other rescue organizations in the Southeast.  ASPCI has received a grant of $1,050 from the PEDIGREE Foundation to help with the expenses of these transports.

ASPCI selects dogs and puppies from area shelters and impoundment facilities to be given vaccinations and health assessments, then made available for transfer to other rescues.  ASPCI also partners with an established local transport non-profit organization to get dogs and puppies to other cities where adoptable animals are in short supply.

In 2018, ASPCI transported and/or assisted in the transport of 1,362 animals to adoption centers where they could find homes.  The $1,050 grant from the PEDIGREE Foundation will be used beginning in January 2019, along with other ASPCI funds, to pay for van expenses, any medical treatments the dogs require before being transferred, and employee (driver) wages.

ASPCI’s President, Barbara Wallace, made this statement: “All of us at ASPCI are so grateful to the PEDIGREE Foundation for this grant.  This foundation has helped us with grant funds in prior years also and ASPCI is honored to receive this money to be used to send more dogs and puppies to good homes.”

The PEDIGREE Foundation was formed in 2008 by Mars Petcare, the maker of PEDIGREE food for dogs.  It is an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping dogs in need find loving homes.  The foundation supports the work of shelters and dog rescue organizations throughout the country.

More than 3.3 million dogs end up in shelters and rescue organizations every year, and nearly half of them never find a place to call home.  PEDIGREE Foundation sees a day when all dogs are safe, secure, well cared for, fed well, and loved.  For more information on the foundation and how you can support it, visit www.pedigreefoundation.org
