The City of Leeds conducted a swearing in ceremony for new Police Chief Jim Atkinson at the City Council meeting last Monday evening at Leeds Civic Center. The swearing in was conducted by city Judge Cliff Price and standing in with Chief Atkinson for the ceremony was Chief’s son, Ken Atkinson, who is the Irondale Police Chief.
A huge crowd of family and friends attended in support of the new Chief including his wife, son, sister and Homewood Police Chief Paul Costa.

Atkinson has over 45 years of experience in law enforcement and much of that came from his tenure at Homewood Police Department. He also served as mayor of Homewood. Atkinson came onboard with the City of Leeds as a consultant earlier this year and was recently moved to Police Chief.
“Our number one priority is to keep our citizens safe and I will do everything I can to insure that reality!” Jim Atkinson addressed the City Council and attendees.
Atkinson and his family lives in Leeds and he is very excited about working right here in his home town to make Leeds a safer place to live.
