The holidays are a season of joy, love, and giving, and Spotlight’s upcoming productions of “Elf, Jr.” and “Miracle on 34th Street” will fill your hearts with all.

The first in Spotlight’s holiday lineup is “Elf, Jr.”, a musical that will be performed by The Pell City High School Drama Club. The show is led by PCHS Drama Instructor Ginger McCurry. McCurry is a veteran teacher, actress, and director whose shows are always huge hits with crowds.

“Elf Jr.” follows the story of Buddy – a regular elf who’s been raised by an elf family at the North Pole. Except in this tale, Buddy’s life is turned upside down when he discovers he’s actually a human!

This musical, based on the popular Christmas movie “Elf” starring Will Ferrell, follows Buddy as he sets out to find his human dad. Buddy encounters a variety of characters who have lost the true spirit of Christmas, including the beautiful Jovie.

Will Buddy be able to save Santa and Christmas? Find out Nov. 15-18.

But wait! Spotlight has more holiday cheer to share!

“Miracle on 34th Street”, directed by Spotlight Core Company member Jacob Call, is sure to delight audiences. Based on the 1946 motion picture and novel by Valentine Davies, the play reaffirms our beliefs in love, giving, and, of course, Santa Claus.

“Every time I visit a rehearsal at CEPA, the theater is filled with laughter,” Spotlight Program Coordinator Lesley Warren said. “The kids and adults in the cast are having so much fun making new friends and creating something that our community is going to cherish.”

Chuck Cohron, who plays Kris Kringle, said, “This is such a wonderful experience. Getting to work with my Spotlight family and all of these talented kids is truly a blessing.”

You’ll want to bring the whole family to see “Miracle on 34th Street,” which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pell City (pellcityrotary.com). Its uplifting message of faith and hope combined with many funny moments is sure to please all.
